TIENetwork:  A Journey

The Trauma Informed Educators Network was launched as a social media group on Facebook in 2018 by Mathew Portell, an educator, principal, and international facilitator,  who was seeking to connect to like-minded people who were also trying to incorporate the most current trauma-focused neuroscience, psychology, and physical science to innovate with informed practices in schools across the globe.   This journey was one that many other educators worldwide were also enduring as the group proliferated and now supports over 31,000 educators, practitioners, and parents from over 100 different countries.  This ignited a fire within Portell, which led him to start the Trauma Informed Educators Network Podcast, which has featured some of the most influential pioneers in trauma-informed education, including Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr. Lori Desautels, Dr. Ross Greene, Dr. Tracey Benson, and many more.

In 2019, a national team from the TIENetwork social media group came together to start the first annual Trauma Informed Educators Network Conference.  The conference not only developed a time and space for practitioners to learn together but it was designed to utilize trauma-informed practices within the conference.  This includes the unique opportunity of "home groups."  To ensure participants have opportunities to connect and build their networks, they get the opportunity to join the same group several times throughout the conference to share their new learning, experiences, and connections.  Now in it's fourth year, the TIENetwork Conference has had participants from over ten difference countries and nearly all 50 states.  We hope you will join us!

In 2023, the TIENetwork launched as a professional development and support organization for those seeking to start or enhance their trauma-informed journey.  This next step allows practitioners to support practitioners.  The TIENetwork offers a variety of supports, including professional learning, coaching, and keynote speaking for districts, schools, organizations, and businesses.

The TIENetwork team has presented and supported this work across the U.S. and globally, including England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Belize, and more.
